The Vaccines

The Vaccines 3 March 2012

Tim and I recently hooked up at Miloko studios in Hoxton square with The Vaccines to record an upcoming single for release on our Ogenesis label. The band are huge fans of Ogenesis’ own R.Stevie Moore, and we spent the day recording a cover of R.Stevie’s “Why Should I love You”.

The track is set for release at the end of April on record store day. R.Stevie has recorded a b-side for the single, covering….you guessed it, The Vaccines. You can hear the mix here.

Blood Music…another Ogenesis recording

4 December 2011 – Blood Music

I’ve just finished mixing 2 tracks for release on Ogenesis Records next year. The band, Blood Music, are a 3 piece from London featuring the music of Simon Pomery, Adam Kerle and Kenichi Iwasa.

The tracks “Orpheé” and “Sea of Leaves” are amongst some of the favourite things I have worked on. Originally intended for 7” release, we soon relealised that coming in at 10 and 14 minutes respectively we were going to need to make this a 12” release!

Orpheé is haunting, with shoegazey guitars and heavy drums, and “Sea of Leaves” is a brutal sonic assault, also featuring the amazing Nik Void (Factory Floor) on 2nd guitar.

These tracks were recorded 100% live at Eve…the way forward in my opinion.

The Rivalry

Jim Spencer Production

1 December 2011 – The Rivalry

I just finished mixing three tracks for “The Rivalry”, from sunny Stoke. The tracks are heavily influenced by The Verve and “The Smiths”, but they throw in an electronic twist courtesy of “The Wizard” on keyboards. The tracks “Silent Disco”, “Live it Like You Mean It” and the epic “102” will be available from the bands website soon.

Black Dollar Bills

Jim Spencer Producer

26 November 2011 – Black Dollar Bills

Back in the fantastic Eve Studios again for 2 tracks with Birmingham based band “Black Dollar Bills”I wanted to record these guys live, vocals and all for a totally raw feel…kind of like the ultimate gig.

The results were great, bursting with energy from the band and singer Andy “Rocho”’s raw vocal style. If you like BRMC, Jesus and the Mary Chain or Iggy you’ll love these guys.

Birdpen

Jim Spencer Production

20 November 2011 – Birdpen

A little over year from the first session at Eve Studios in Stockport, and I’ve just finished the last mix for the album “Global Lows” by Southampton band Birdpen.

The album has been recorded in stages and this week saw the final 3 mixes being finished off at Eve. These guys are great, cinematic backdrops to Dave Pen’s lyrics exploring the darker side of the human condition.

The album is schedued for release next year, definately worth checking out.

Dave has also recently collaborated with the Robin Foster on his fantastic album, “Where do we go from Here?”

Wiz Khalifa

Jim Spencer engineer

8 November 2011 – Wiz Khalifa

I spent the night at Eve studios with the new American Rap superstar and friend of Snoop. Wiz is writing his next album on the road, and stopped in for an intense 6 hour session starting after his gig at The Apollo in Manchester.

What can I say, a gentleman and a geezer!!
