Hannah Nicholson

I’ve recently finished producing an Ep for the wonderfully sublime Hannah Nicholson. Hannah has one of the best voices I’ve recorded, and her songs are wonderfully expansive. Hannah’s  vocal arrangements demonstrate her impressive range, and the atmosphere she evokes is captivating.

The tracks are Jasmine, Breath, Oliver and Crazy. Watch out for her this year!

The Charlatans New Album

So, been neglecting the old website a bit recently. I’ve been so busy in the studio and amongst many other things which I’ll try and add in soon, I’ve just finished producing another new album with The Charlatans. The album is their 2nd for BMG, and is a progression from 2015′s brilliant Modern Nature. Lots of guests involved, including Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, Stephen Morris, Nik Void, Sharon Horgan and Ian Rankin.

Mixing is almost finished now, and the album should land in early June. Different Days

Hello Moon at the Blue Dot Festival

Blue Dot Festival

Hello Moon is a unique collaboration between Professor Tim O Brien from Jodrell Bank and Stargazing Live and Dave Tolan and myself. The idea was simple – to make the sound archive of Jodrell Bank into a electro track using sounds from the big bang to the present day, from sounds sent to earth from all over the universe.

The results have been made into a moon shaped picture disc with Professor Tim running through the origin of all the sounds on the B-side. Billions of years in the making!

We will be chatting at Blue Dot Festival on the 23 july about the track if you want to come say hi.

Anthropoid

Cillian Murphy

Earlier this year I mixed the soundtrack for the upcoming film starring Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy. Anthropoid is based on the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the WWII mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution and the Reich’s third in command after Hitler and Himmler.

The film soundtrack is by the awesome Robin Foster and the film is directed and co-written by Sean Ellis, due for release this summer

Tailor For Penguins

I’ve just returned from La Casamurada studio near Barcelona, where I’ve been recording the debut album for the fantastic Tailor for Penguins on Mushroom Pillow records. The recording was fast and furious, completed in just 20 days and the tracks are sounding great! I have to say it was a pleasure to wake up to blue skies and sunshine everday :-) Mixing to follow in the Radiophonic studio at the start of October.Tailor for Penguins

Gabe Gurnsey

Drone Records

Gabe Gurnsey of Factory Floor will soon release his debut solo single, ‘Falling Phase’. It’s coming out on Drone, the label run by Death In Vegas’ Richard Fearless, as their fourth release.

On the EP itself, Gurnsey explores “humanising machines and electronics”, with the A-side featuring vocals from fellow Factory Floor member, Nik Void.

The EP is out later this month, and you can view the video Gabe, Fearless and Taylor Burch made for the title track below:

And the video for the b side “Partaloa”, made by Gabe below.

Hot Vestry

Ogenesis records

I’ve just finished mixing 4 tracks for an upcoming Ogenesis release by Hot Vestry. The bands have self recorded the tracks and I’ve been mixing them down and mastering them in Eve studios.

Hot Vestry are a band from Macclesfield whose Demo CD granted them support slots with New Order at Manchester Apollo. Last year they released their first EP ‘Tell Me How It’s Done’ on their own Bleichpop Records. After the release, New Order again asked them to be their support band at Jodrell Bank with Johnny Marr. Following this, they played festivals such as the Isle Of Wight, Kendal Calling & Festival Number 6.

Manchester Evening News calls them “four teenagers deadly intent on showing up British indie-pop’s recent complacency. The band marry big pop hooks with esoteric flourishes, juddering rhythms and an impressive questing spirit with their their genre-straddling experimental pop”.
